Little Hungary Farm Winery — Melomel

An old-fashioned, European-style small farm production winery. An all-natural wine made from honey, grapes, apples, and pears.

This winery in Buckhannon, West Virginia has more workers than any other winery in the state: one man and 50,000 bees. Dr. Ferenc Frank Androczi, winery owner, raises ten acres of grapes, berries, peaches, pears, plums, apples, apricots, and other fruits for his wine production using organic farming principles, and keeps his own bees for the honey used in his wines.

If you visit Little Hungary you will be regaled with stories about the history of mead and its health-giving properties, all delivered with a twinkling eye over a sample of melomel. Dr. Androczi, named a “Master Artist” in the West Virginia Folk Art Apprenticeship Program, also teaches the art of traditional winemaking. The Apprenticeship Program is administered by the Augusta Heritage Center of Davis & Elkins.
