The events of September 5, 1849
Pétervárad (Újvidék, Novi Sad, Serbia today) capitulates. A fort on the Danube in Southern Hungary
(in todays’ Vojvodina province), Pétervárad had been an anchor point in
confrontations with Croat-Serb forces. Komárom continues to hold out.
