Pici Maci club’s first year was a success! Once everyone figured out how to find the College Park Community Center, our meeting ran smoothly.

The activities were geared towards the older kids, however, the toddlers enjoyed watching their older brothers and sisters. For the kids one of the bests parts of coming to Pici Maci is when they get to leave the classroom and go outside to the playground!

Two highlights from our first year were Enikó néni’s puppet show and the Három Szabó Legény song when Tas, Ádam, and Árpi sat on Szilvia néni’s back! The kids also liked Hátamon a zsákom with props. In May the Community Center unexpectedly could not accommodate us. We decided to take a hike to Lake Artemisia. Even though it was a little cold, the kids enjoyed walking and climbing on trees. We nearly made it to the College Park Airport museum, but the little legs were getting tired.

In November the kids started the meeting by making a Christmas tree ornament. The Dio Babák turned out nicely. The kids filled half a walnut shell with wool, covered the wool with a piece of fabric. Szilvia néni brought wooden face beads to attach to the top. The kids took their little walnut babies home to hang on their trees.

We anticipate meeting 8 times in 2009 with additional chances to meet at the Hungarian Picnics in Washington, DC and at the Hungarian Bazaar in Bethesda, MD. If time permits we will also have a Szalonna Sütés Camp Fire in the Greenbelt National Park in the Fall.
