Külön kérem a cserkészparancsnokokat, hogy lépjenek kapcsolatba a cserkészekkel, cserkészszülőkkel, és kérjék meg őket, hogy mindenki külön-külön faxoljon a püspök úrnak, hogy halomban álljanak a faxok az asztalán.

Dear Bishop Lennon,

I am writing to you as one of the 2,000 participants in the work of the Hungarian Lobby. I understand that your Excellency has instructed the closing of two of the three Hungarian parishes within Cleveland in your Diocese, which include St. Emeric Church, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church and St. Margaret of Hungary Church, the three churches that today are serving the spiritual needs of the Catholic Hungarian community of Cleveland.

I understand that your decision is to close St. Emeric Church and St. Margaret of Hungary Church while keeping St. Elizabeth of Hungary open to serve the Hungarian community. I would like to respectfully inform you that the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church is no longer in a Hungarian neighborhood while St. Emeric is the center of the Hungarian community of Cleveland. Besides the religious services, the church provides space for the Hungarian school, for 250 registered scouts, the Hungarian Folk Ensemble; all Hungarian national holidays are commemorated there, dignitaries and clergy from Hungary visit the church, special masses and receptions are held there. In short, the closing of this church would devastate the Hungarian community of Cleveland.

I also understand that your reason for the consolidation is financial. Your Excellency might not have been informed that the St. Emeric parish is financially sound and not a burden to the Diocese. Over the years all necessary repairs and updating have been completed without financial strain by volunteers. The church interior was just recently refurbished and repainted for about $250,000. Today it is in a beautiful condition.

I understand that your Excellency has scheduled the closing of the parish for June 30, 2010, and asked Deacon James Armstrong to hold a meeting about the details of this closing on March 25, 2009. Therefore, while the time available to modify your plans is extremely limited, it is still possible to make the change and leave St. Emeric Church open instead of the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church.

I do hope that you will find it possible to make this change in your consolidation plans. This would strengthen the Hungarian Catholic Community of Cleveland and would make all Hungarians of the Cleveland area grateful to you.

Frissítés (2012. március): a Vatikán felülbírálta a bezárásokat

Lipták Béla: Köszönet az HL azon résztvevőinek, akik leveleikkel segítették a clevelandieket, és ezzel újból bebizonyították azt is, hogy nem panaszkodni, hanem tenni kell, és hogy érdemes.

A Vatikán a Klérus Kongregációja 2012 elején rendkívüli lépésként felülbírálta Cleveland térségében 13 plébánia bezárását, arra hivatkozva, hogy Richard Lennon püspök nem tartotta be a megfelelő eljárást a három évvel korábbi bezárások során. Ez ritka eset, amikor Róma felülbírál egy amerikai püspököt templombezárási ügyben — a döntés arra az ügyvédi fellépésre (Peter Borre) épült, amely a clevelandi térségi bezárások ellen küzdött. A területi egyházmegye összesen 50 templomot zárt be vagy vont össze, arra hivatkozva, hogy a csökkenő híveszám és paphiány miatt nem engedhetik meg maguknak azok fenntartását.
