Dear Mr. Prime Minister, Dear Mr. Fico,

I have been informed (I hope incorrectly) that the Constitutional Committee of the Slovak Parliament supports the recommendation of the SNS representatives that the Benes decrees are “inviolable, untouchable and unchangeable”. I hope that this information is incorrect.

In any case, I hope that as a former member of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Women's Rights, you will do all you can to declare those decrees illegal and to issue a formal apology for the collective punishment, denigration, disfranchisement and for the endured suffering of Slovakia’s Hungarian minority.

Such a gesture would not only correct a terrible historic wrong, but would be a major step towards reestablishing the brotherly relationship and mutual respect that existed for a millennium between our nations while we lived in symbiosis.
