cimbalom strings

I am a piano technician and am considering helping a friend repair and restring a cimbalom. I am familiar with piano wire, but I'm not sure if a cimbalom is string with that or a different type of wire. Is there anyone who can tell me what kind of wire is used to string a cimbalom?
