Background:
In the 14-15th centuries a large group of Hungarians settled down
in Moldova (currently the northern part of Romania). 2-300,000
descendents of these Hungarians still live in Moldova today. They are
called the Csango Hungarians.
The Romanian authorities are trying to assimilate the Csango
Hungarians by denying them the most fundamental minority rights (such
as the Holy Mass in the archaic Hungarian they speak, Hungarian
schools etc.). The Duna TV could support the survival of the
Hungarian minority in Moldova by airing programs in the archaic
Hungarian language of the Csangos.
What to do:
Please write to the President of Duna TV Sandor Sara and ask him to air
programs in archaic Hungarian for the Csangos. Feel free to use the

Dear Mr. Sara,
in the struggle against the assimilation of the Csango Hungarians the
Duna TV could play an important role.
Currently several initiatives exists in order to save the Hungarian
minority in Moldova, the Csangos. The effort to teach Csango youths
Hungarian history and literature in Hungarian schools in Transylvania
seemed to be promising. Unfortunately these students were educated in
modern Hungarian, which is not understandable in the region. What is
worst: they received the impression, that their language is inferior
and they themselves are not as good as anybody else. The result of
these mistakes was that of the 102 csango students, who graduated from
the Transylvanian highschool classes for csangos, NONE has returned
to Moldova.
I conclude from this experience that the survival of the Csangos can
be secured only if their archaic Hungarian language, their traditions
as well as their culture receives the acknowledgement it deserves.
Instead of forcing the adoption of “modern” Hungarian culture, we
have to esteem the local customs.
Duna TV could make the first step by airing programs in the archaic
Hungarian language of the Csangos. This initiative would be
appreciated surely by the Hungarian minority in Moldova. Duna TV could
achieve that the csangos would be proud of their 500 year old, unique
language and of their superhuman achievement in making it survive.
Thereby Duna TV would contribute to the survival of this minority.
Therefore I respectfully ask you Mr. president, please initiate
programs for the Csangos in their archaic Hungarian language on Duna
TV.

Tisztelt Sara Ur,
a csango magyar asszimilalodas megakadalyozasaban a Duna TV-nek
egy fontos szerep juthat.
A csango magyarok fennmaradasaert kulonbozo magyarorszagi es erdelyi
kezdemenyezes kuzd. Sikeresnek igerkezett 102 csango diak
befogadasa egy erdelyi magyar gimnaziumba azzal a cellal, hogy
visszaterve csangofoldre – magyartudatukat tovabbadva kornyezetuknek
– nagyobb onbizalommal lepnek fel kisebbseguk jogaiert. Sajnos a
csango diakok azt a benyomast kaptak a magyar iskolaban, hogy az
anyanyelvuk, eletmodjuk alsobbrendu a mai “modern” magyareval
szemben. E teves felfogasnak az eredmenye elkeserito: Eddig
egyetlen vegzos csango diak nem tert vissza a “primitiv”-nek velt
szulofoldjere.
E tapasztalatbol le kell vonni a konzekvenciat: A csangok szorosabb
kotodesuket a magyar nemzethez csupan nyelvjarasuk, hagyomanyaik es
kulturajuk elismeresevel lehet elerni. Ahelyett hogy sajat
eletmodunkat-felfogasunkat a csangokra eroltetjuk, nagyobb figyelmet
kell szentelni a tobb evszazados szokasaikra.
Az elso lepest ez iranyba Duna TV tehetne, egy rendszeres csango
nyelvu musor bevezetesevel. Egy ilyen kezdemenyezes a csangok koreben nagy
nepszerusegnek orvendene. Felkeltene a moldovai magyar testvereink
buszkeseget sajat nyelvjarasukra es hagyomanyaikra. Igy egy csango
adassal Duna TV jelentosen hozzajarulna a moldovai magyar kisebbseg
megmentesehez.
Ezert kerem tisztelt Sara Ur, kezdemenyezze a rendszeres csango
musor bevezeteset a Duna TV-nel.
