Mi, erdélyiek reménykedünk. Isten nélkül sem szavazással, sem erőlködéssel nem lehet egyesíteni a magyar nemzetet — pedig a folyamat elindult; egyesek szerint a központ ismét Erdélybe tevődött át. Imádkozzunk, hogy felnőjünk ahhoz a nagy feladathoz, amelyet Isten ránk osztott ki most. Mindenütt megjelennek majd hozzáértő fiak, akik a munkát alázattal, sikeresen elvégzik — nekünk csak a kellő pillanatot kell felismernünk, hogy engedelmeskedjünk és végezzük a ránk kiosztott munkát.

RE: Testament of Revolution

Thank you for this quite remarkable and important work. For a variety of reasons, I have been attempting to read your elegant, sad, and uplifting account in Hungarian.

We are about the same age. In 1956, at age 16 and on this side of the Atlantic, I listened and watched — initially with hope, then intense dismay — as the West, embroiled with Suez and the Cold War, turned a cold shoulder on Hungary. My father, an immigrant after Trianon, sponsored 9 refugees who came to our town in 1957, trying his best to ease some of our pain.

As a hybrid family, Hungarian was not spoken in our house while I was growing up. Late in his life, I coerced my father to begin teaching me the language. It was a sweet time for both of us, spawning in me an enduring interest in Hungarian life.
