RE: Turkey and the Kurds (11/24/09 editorial)

I welcome your editorial reporting the good news that Turkey is lifting language restrictions on her Kurdish citizens and your view that the EU should consider this step as reason for Turkey’s admission into the union.

On the other hand, your readers should also know that Slovakia has just introduced a language law (amounting to the establishment of a “language police”) against her Hungarian citizens. Slovakia is a member of the EU and yet the union is silent and that silence is becoming deafening. You might consider reminding the European leaders that human rights should apply to all.
