Dear Mr. President, Dear Governor Dean

“The Hungarian Lobby shares the views and concerns of the 1.54 million Hungarian-Americans. Our main concern is the future of the 3 million Hungarians living in the neighboring states of Hungary.

These people have been living in the towns and villages for a thousand years. Yet they became foreigners in their own hometowns after WW I, because the borders have been redrawn around them. Justice and European stability would both be served if the rights of these 3 million people to self-determination and autonomy were finally recognized. In 2004, many of the 1.54 million Hungarian-Americans will support the presidential candidate who speaks up for the collective human rights of these 3 million disenfranchised people.

Dear Mr. President, Dear Governor Dean, the Hungarian Lobby would be grateful if we could learn your position on this issue.”

Átdolgozott változat (2003. szeptember 26.)

A tagok visszajelzései alapján Lipták Béla átdolgozta a levelet, kihangsúlyozva, hogy az Egyesült Államok ellenezte és soha el nem fogadta a trianoni békediktátumot:

“The Hungarian Lobby shares the views and concerns of the 1.54 million Hungarian-Americans. Our main concern is the future of the 3 million Hungarians living in Hungary’s neighboring states, since the Treaty of Trianon (which the United States has refused to sign in 1920) dismembered our nation.

These Hungarians have not left their towns and villages for a thousand years. Yet they became foreigners in their own hometowns, because the borders have been redrawn around them. Justice and European stability would both be served, if the rights to self-determination and autonomy of these 3 million people were finally recognized.”

2003. október 4-től a levél címzettjei közé bekerült Wesley Clark tábornok, szintén 2004-es elnökjelölt, “Dear General Clark” megszólítással kiegészítve.
