Szépen köszönöm a szinte özönlő levél másolatokat és köszönöm azt is, hogy akció levelünket terjesztik magyar és nem magyar baráti körükben is.

Megjegyzem, hogy amikor kinyitják az elnök úr honlapját a következő címen:

akkor ott a bemáswolt levelük hossza ne haladja meg a 2,500 betüt (beleszámolva a szavak közti helyeket is) és irányító számuk 5 számjegyből álljon. Az alábbi mintalevél hossza megfelel e szabálynak úgy, hogy nevüknek még hagytam 20 betünyi helyet. Dátum és ország nem kell.

Mégegyszer megköszönöm akciónkban való mrésztvételüket és remélem, hogy elég levél érkezik a Fehér Házba ahhoz, hogy hétfőn jelentsék kérésünket az elnök úrnak.

Dear Mr. President,

This year is the 160th anniversary of the tour of Louis Kossuth that he made at the invitation of President Millard Fillmore. Kossuth was the second foreign citizen to be invited to speak to the joint session of the United State’s Congress, second only to Marquis de La Fayette. At the time Secretary of State Daniel Webster stated that the model of the American Republic will be followed, if Kossuth’s plan of a “Danubian Federation” materializes. Today, these seeds are beginning to germinate by the formation of the “Visegrád Four”.

The friendship between the United States and Hungary goes back to Washington’s time, when the Hungarian commander of the American cavalry, Michael Kováts, gave his life for the freedom of America. Two centuries later, in 1956, the Hungarian freedom fighters mortally wounded the barbaric Red Empire of the Soviets and the United States demonstrated her willingness to help by granting political asylum to Cardinal Józsf Mindszenty at the American Embassy in Budapest and also to 32,000 Hungarian refugees.

This mutual friendship was also demonstrated by President Carter, who in 1978 returned the Holy Crown of St. Stephen, which the United States protected during and after WW2. Later, in 1989 Hungary drove the first nail into the coffin of the Soviet Union by opening the Iron Curtain and more recently Hungarian men and women fought alongside their American brothers in Kosovo, Sarajevo and Afghanistan. Today Hungary is flying American helicopters and recently has acted as the representative of the United States during the war in Libya.
It is for these reasons that we respectfully invite you to our joint celebration with our Polish-Amarican friends at the Kossuth Statue in New York City. This celebration will take place on either the 17th or 18th of March. Mr President, we can set both the day and the time to fit your busy schedule. If neither of these dates are convenient, you could express your friendship by visiting areas where larger numbers of the descendants of American-Hungarians reside, such as the Kossuth County Iowa, Cleveland Ohio or Sarasota Florida. We would also be honored, if you would invite the President and/or Prime Minister of Hungary to the White House or to join you at the Democratic Party Convention. I am sure that the 1.5 million Hungarian-Americans would be honored and greateful for any of these gestures.
