Szépen köszönöm a Középeurópai Federációra vonatkoző

címek egyikére (én a FAX-ot találtam a legeredményesebbnek a
gyors válasz szempontjából). Egyertértek azzal is, hogy a levelek
tartalmazzák egy államfői megbeszélés létrehozásának
javaslatát, melyre meghívást kapnának, a 4 “visegrádi
államfő” mellett, (egyenlőre csak megfigyelői státusban), a
szomszédos államok államfői is.
A cím:

“Középeurópai Federáció – Danubian Confederation” Honlap
Szintén támogatom a javasletot egy honlap létrehozására, melynek
kizárólagos célja a középeurópai együttműködés
kérdéseinek megbeszélése és az abban való résztvételre
meghíjuk a szomszéd országokból a hasonlóan gondolkozó
személyeket is.

urakat. Aki naz HL résztvevői közül egyetért, kérem támogassa
a tervet.

A Dunai Konfederáció tervének terjesztése
szomszédos országok nyelveire való fordítását) terjesszük a
venni.

Why Did Central Europe Disappear?
In the 19th century, Louis Kossuth dreamed of a Danubean
Confederation. This was too advanced of a concent for that century,
but in 1867 a united Central Europe did emerge in the form of the
Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. This state minimized internal tensions by
allowing the use of the regional languages in the local
administrations and by giving equal rights to religious minorities.
For example, during WW1 some 25,000 Jewish reserve officers served
in the armies of the Monarchy. The ethnic and religious tolerance of
this large and clumsy Empire (Europe’s largest except for Russia),
resulted in an economic and cultural boom in the region. For half a
century, this, the geographic center of Europe, also became a
powerful economic and cultural center and this contributed to the
peace and stability in Europe.
The existence of this powerful state in the center of Europe did not
suit the French, who aspired to dominate the whole of Europe and
therefore when a Serbian anarchist killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand
and in response the Monarchy declared war on Serbia, used this
opportunity to start WW1. The goal of the war was to destroy the two
Central European power centers: Germany and the Austro-Hungarian
Empire. At the end of WW1, Germany was humiliated in Versailles and
the 1,000 years old Hungarian kingdom was dismembered at Trianon.
Hungary was reduced from 325 thousand km2 to 93 thousand km2 and in
her place, artificial and unstable “successor states” were
created, such as Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and greater Romania.
The United States Congress did not approve or recognize Trianon, but
still the French won, Central Europe was destroyed and a power
vacuum was created in the region by the establishment of agonistic
small successor states. The brutal acts of Versailles and Trianon
planted the seeds of WW2, because the humiliation that was meted out
resulted in a “revanchist” mood in Central Europe. This mood was
exploited by the hate-filled mad man: Hitler. To destroy him, the
allies acquired the help of another brutal mad man: Stalin. In
exchange for his help, the allies at Yalta allowed him to take over
most of Central Europe.
So the process that started at the end of WW1 and continued after
WW2, maintained a Europe with only an East and a West, but no
center. In 1956, when the Hungarians revolted against Soviet
occupation, they received no help. The French and English were more
interested in taking back the Suez Canal than in the freedom of
Central Europe.
Although the Red Empire collapsed in 1989 – and some of the
unnatural “successor states” disintegrated -, the power vacuum
remained. The only change that occurred was the gradual change in
the European leadership from a French-English to a French-German
alliance and the emergence of the European Union with Brussels as
its headquarters.
As the Soviet tanks left Central Europe, the Western banks and
globalized corporations moved in. The corrupt post-Communist elite,
“privatized” the national properties into their own pockets and
than sold them to foreign high bidders. So the power vacuum in
Central Europe continued, only the tanks were replaced by the banks.
Yet something is changing! It is that France is no longer “running
the show” and the nations of Central Europe are slowly starting to
come together. The nations of Central Europe are getting tired of
being only markets of foreign goods and of being exploited by the
crippling loans of globalized financial institutions. They are
beginning to realize that they have to join together if they want to
protect their interests. As a result, – in Visegrád, Hungary -, four
of the former Soviet satellites have planted the seeds of a more
united Central Europe, – resembling the one that was destroyed a
hundred years earlier at the end of WW1 -, but on a model closer to
Kossuth’s dream, a Danubean Confederation.
Everybody knows that geographically Eastern Europe is in the Ukraine
and in Western Russia, while Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and
Slovakia are in Europe’s center. What is not so well known is that
the destruction of the power in Central Europe was a mistake and
that the reemergence of this power will serve both stability and
prosperity. What is also new is the growing view in both Brussels
and Washington, that the seeds planted in Visegrád should be
supported! The United States is moving towards the position that
Central Europe should be allowed to fulfill its historic role, which
is to balance the interests of the two sides of the continent and
thereby serve stability.
It is for this reason that Central Europe is not a relic of the
past, but the promise of the future.
