Koszorús Ferenc idézetmontázsa a Bush-látogatásról, Kafka szellemének megidézésével. A darabokat ő állította egymás mellé; a kérdések is az övéi. Megjelent a Magyar Lobbi 2006. július 14-i akciólevelében.
Dear Friends, – kezdte – a few seemingly random but actually related thoughts. Inspired by the legacy of Kafka (for Kafkaesque)…
Bush elnök
„In 1956, the Hungarian people suffered under a communist dictatorship and domination by a foreign power. That fall, the Hungarian people had decided they had had enough and demanded change… These Hungarian patriots tore down the statue of Josef Stalin, and defied an empire to proclaim their liberty.
Twelve days after the Hungarian people stood up for their liberty, the communists in Moscow responded with great brutality. Soon the streets of Budapest were filled with Soviet tanks. The Red Army killed many who resisted, including women and children. The Soviets [and their Hungarian Quislings] threw many more into prison. They crushed the Hungarian uprising, but not the Hungarian people’s thirst for freedom.”
Tony Snow, a Fehér Ház szóvivője a Gellért-hegyi beszédről
„This is not a policy speech, it’s kind of a tone poem about the 1956 revolution… This is not a newsy speech… This is mainly about visiting the Hungarian government and paying homage to what they went through 50 years ago.”
A Pestiside erre
„Snow’s statement that Bush’s trip [was] »about visiting the Hungarian government and paying homage to what they went through 50 years ago« seems just a little odd, given that the current government is pretty much the same party that fought against the heroic ’56ers. Not that this should really matter, given that it’s all about a »tone poem«, whatever the [expletive deleted] that might be.”
Az Amerikai Magyar Szövetség június 17-i levele az elnöknek
„We are especially pleased that you will reach out to all the Parliamentary parties, including the opposition parties, as some of them represent the very constituencies who actively and passively resisted the totalitarianism imposed by the Kremlin. They paid an extremely heavy price for their patriotism and love of freedom. As the wounds are deep, please be patient with those who may not be reconciled with the course history took fifty years ago.”
Gati Charles
„The president should indeed join Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany – Hungary’s Tony Blair – to celebrate that country’s recent achievements.”
Gyurcsány Ferenc
„…az Egyesült Államok a szövetségünk, Oroszország a stratégiai partnerünk.”
Koszorús kérdése ehhez: Response or reaction to Russia deemed a strategic partner?
És a következő sor, kommentár nélkül: Lunch by some whose family members helped Kádár betray and stamp out the „counterrevolution”.
Koszorús kérdése: Why were some deserving Hungarians who worked hard for close American/Hungarian relations not invited to the Gellert Hegy speech? – majd újra Jeszenszky: „A hegyi beszéd meghívottjai között jó néhány honfitársunkat nem láttam, aki sokat tett a két ország viszonyának elmélyítése érdekében, jóval többet, mint némely ottlévő…”
Gati: „It is time to come clean”
„The president should tell the Hungarians that in the 1950s Congress issued politically inspired »Captive Nations« resolutions and held self-satisfying »prayer breakfasts«, while Eisenhower delivered empty promises about »liberation« during presidential campaigns in 1952 and 1956 to please Hungarian (and other Eastern European) ethnics in Ohio and elsewhere – with no plans to carry them out. The Hungarians need to hear what happened 50 years ago…”
És Koszorús ellenkérdése: But what is happening now? HGOV to eliminate HTMH… – Response or reaction from minority rights champions?
Ehhez ismét Jeszenszky: „De lehetett volna néhány elismerő és bátorító szava a határainkon túl a demokráciát és a nyugati értékeket legkövetkezetesebben képviselő, ugyanakkor minden erőszakos cselekménytől tartózkodó magyar közösségekhez.”
És újra az AMSZ június 17-i levele: „As you celebrate the triumph of liberty in Budapest, we respectfully call your attention to the fact that there are Hungarian communities living in states neighboring Hungary who do not yet fully enjoy the benefits of freedom because of the discrimination and intolerance they experience solely due to their nationality. It would be most fitting if this 50th anniversary year were to be capped by a commitment by every country of the region to promote genuine democracy (and stability) by respecting the minority rights and legitimate aspirations of their respective minorities.”
A zárás
„Let’s all join hands and celebrate the 50th anniversary this fall with a clear vision of the meaning of 1956 and a deep respect for the heroism Hungarians exhibited fifty years ago when they sacrificed not daily comforts and social amenities, but their lives for the cause of freedom, liberty, justice and independence.”
