Dear Ms. Diane Farrell and Congressman Christopher Shays,

I am an undecided Hungarian-American voter living in Fairfield County. I would like to ask you to answer this letter to help me (and also some of my friends) decide whom to vote for in November.

You might not know that Hungarians are the largest minority of Europe, and that some Hungarian-Americans, such as myself, are more than willing to cross party lines, if that is what it takes to help their relatives in Europe.

Hungarians became a minority, not because they emigrated to other countries, but because the borders were redrawn around them. They became foreigners without leaving their thousand-year-old towns and villages.

The kingdom of Hungary was dismembered in 1920 (against the objections of President Wilson), because having a large and powerful Central European nation would have prevented Western Europe’s hegemony over the whole of Europe. Hungary did nothing to deserve this.

Hungarians defended Europe for a thousand years, they never had any colonies, never had any slaves, did not practice segregation, were the first nation to declare the freedom of religion, and more recently, in 1956, they served all of mankind by mortally wounding Communism.

What I would like to learn from you is: would you support an American foreign policy which would include the protection of the collective human rights of the national minorities, their right to local self-government and to dual citizenship?

I would be grateful if I could learn your position on these issues.

Frissítés: a teljes Hungarian American Caucus újraválasztva

Köszönet mindazoknak, akik részt vettek abban az HL-akcióban, amely a Hungarian American Caucus (HAC) valamennyi tagjának újraválasztását szorgalmazta, pártállásuktól függetlenül — ezzel is bizonyítva, hogy az európai magyar kisebbségek jövője fontosabb az amerikai magyar szavazók számára, mint saját ideológiai vagy párthovatartozásuk.

A HAC társelnökei, Tom Lantos és Christopher Shays, valamint a caucus valamennyi tagja — demokraták és republikánusok egyaránt — újraválasztást nyert. A Magyar Lobbi arra kérte a tagokat, gratuláljanak nekik, és emlékeztessék őket: újraválasztásukhoz az amerikai magyarság támogatása is hozzájárult — az új ülésszak legsürgetőbb feladata a H. Res. 632 újbóli beterjesztése és elfogadtatása, az erdélyi magyar egyházi vagyonok visszaszolgáltatásáról.
