“Thank you for your letter of 21 July 2003 concerning the Benes Decrees of 1945. The Committee on Petitions has already examined a number of petitions on this subject, the latest being petition 977/2002, which was declared admissible in accordance with the Treaty on the European Union, insofar as the matter falls within the sphere of activities of the European Communities.

The Committee on Petitions considered it appropriate that the observations contained in the petitions in question were brought to the attention of the committee with responsibilities in this area, the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Parliament, and the Delegation to the EU-Czech Republic Joint Parliamentary Committee.

Your letter has been included in the dossier concerning the above mentioned petition 977/2002.
