Dear Mr. President,
It meant a lot to us Hungarians, that you joined us in our celebration of our anniversaries of our 1848 and 1956 fights for freedom on the 15th of March and marked National Hungary Day.
It meant a lot, not only to the 1.5 million American Hungarians, but to all 16 million of us around the world. It meant a lot, because your gesture reminded the world, that there is no nation on this planet that values and sacrificed more for the American ideals of freedom, equality and fraternity more, than did the Hungarians.
The statement you made reminded us that as early as in 1777, Hungarians fought for America's freedom, when Michael de Kovats, creator of the American cavalry, came to the aid of George Washington at Trenton. It also reminded us of the honor America bestowed on Louis Kossuth, the Hungarian statesman of our 1848 fight for freedom, by inviting him to address the joint houses of Congress.
You also reminded us, that we fought together for decades against the Slave Empire of the Communists. We, the Hungarians have mortally wounded the Red Dictatorship in 1956 and your President Reagan finished the job by tearing down the Berlin wall.
Mr. President, I do thank you for remembering our nations' long standing friendship and our joint struggles for freedom. I also thank my fellow Hungarian, Congressman Tom Lantos for his role in organizing the celebration that marked March 15 as the National Hungary Day.
Thank you Mr. President,
AZ ÖN NEVE ÉS CIME

Bush Marks National Hungary Day
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON — President Bush on Wednesday marked the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian uprising, the first significant move against Soviet dominance in central Europe.
"The Hungarian example is an example of patience and an example of the fact that freedom exists in everybody's soul," Bush said at a celebration of National Hungary Day held at the Capitol.
"It's an example that tyranny can never stamp out the desire to be free. It's an example that _ of a country that, once becomes free, joins with other freedom-loving countries to keep the peace."
The Kremlin sent Soviet tanks into Hungary on Nov. 4. 1956, to crush a revolt after Imre Nagy, the Hungarian prime minister and communist reformer, formed a coalition government, proclaimed neutrality and withdrew from the Warsaw Pact. Nagy, who was in power only 10 days, was arrested and later executed. Some 200,000 Hungarians fled the country and many more were imprisoned.
Bush thanked Hungary for contributing in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also recognized Rep. Tom Lantos, D-Calif., who joined the anti-Nazi underground movement in Hungary and later was taken prisoner to a Nazi labor camp.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., noted that Lantos, the only Holocaust survivor to ever serve in Congress, is an expert on human rights and a fierce advocate for political prisoners across the globe.
"Lantos is a voice for those who have no voice, for people who have no hope, for people yearning to be free," Pelosi said.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., also thanked Hungary for setting an example of a free society that was a bulwark against extremism. "Even now, as we are watching the roots of democracy take hold in Iraq and Afghanistan and Liberia, we must commit to doing everything we can to foster democratic institutions in developing nations," Hastert said.

A felszólalók a következöek voltak: Tom Lantos, Nancy Pelocy, Minority Leader of the House of Rep., Harry Read, Minority Leader of the U.S. Senate, William H. Frist Majority leader of the U.S.Senate, J.Dennis Hasters, Speaker of the House of Rep. Vele jött az Elnök, George W. Bush, András Simonyi, Herbert Walker US Amb. to Hungary. Mr. Walker még Trianont is belerakta beszédébe."
Hát ezt illik megköszönni!!
