I wish to announce that I have won the Kluge Staff Fellowship at the
Library of Congress and will be working on a study of Hungarian
literature. This means that while I am still on the staff of the Library
(and have the same work e-mail, etc.), I am on detail to the Center until
Sept. 30 of 2003 and can devote all of my time to research. For more
information on the Kluge Center and the Fellowships made possible by a
grant of $60 million from John W. Kluge, including application procedures,
the section on Fellowships. Two categories of grants are available:
fellowships for those who received their doctorates within the last seven
years (exceptions made) and "chairs" who are recognized in their fields
and will not only have the opportunity to do research but will advise the
Librarian on a variety of matters dealing from collections policy to
projects. A one million dollar prize has also been established to be
awarded in the Humanities and Social Sciences not covered by the
Nobel-envisaged as a complement to the Nobel.
