Az EU Elnöke elitélte a szlovák nyelvtörvényt.

A Washington Times leközölte az alábbi levelet:

Dear Editor,

I read with interest Suzan Fraser's article in the Washington Times, 14 Nov 09, regarding recent development in Turkey." Turkey moves toward peace with Kurds". The Article points out Turkey's effort in reaction to European Union pressure to resolve discrimination against the Kurds as it courts membership in the EU. As a major step towards acceptance and prerequisite into the EU. Turkey has lifted the restriction of the usage of the Kurdish language and made moves toward restoring the Kurdish names of villages, etc… in order to meet as a minimum EU demands.

I was, however, disappointed in that Ms. Fraser does not make mention that EU on the other hand is deafeningly silent on the recently enacted language law by an EU and NATO member, Slovakia forbidding 12-15 % of her population, the Hungarian ethnic population, to speak their language in public under heavy fine.

Slovakia is a member of the EU and yet the EU is totally silent and that silence is becoming deafening. EU, in one hand, demands that Turkey fully recognize the human rights of the Kurds, rightly so, but then goes on and ignores the despicable human rights violation of a member country, Slovakia. I believe, that this double standard should be pointed out by The Washington Times and bring it to the attention of the leaders of the European Union that human rights should apply across the board and take the necessary step to force Slovakia to rescind the oppressive discriminatory measure. A NATO and EU country should no be allowed to practice ethnic apartheid.
