A Magyar demokrácia és sajtószabadság jóhírét sértő irás jelent meg a Washington Postban, mint szerkeszőségi vélemény.

A lap szerkeszőinek véleménye szerint a magyar sajtótörvény hasonlitható a Putin Oroszországában uralkodó media állapotokhoz, az ottani cenzúrához. Mivel ez nem igaz, az alábbi levélben korrekciót kértem a szerkesztőktöl.

Aki a Magyar Lobbi résztvevői közül egyetért ezzel, kérem, hogy A SAJÁT SZAVAIVAL szintén irjon.

To the Editor,

The facts contradict your 12/27/10 Editorial titled: “The Putinization of Hungary?”

The media law in Hungary is similar to that of the United States or France. It does not attack the freedom of the press nor does it introduce censorship. What it does is: It protects, -particularly the children -, from being exposed to excessive violence or pornography and it attempts to support the domestic film industry. As far as limiting violence and pornography is concerned, this law is practically identical to the laws of France and is similar to the laws we have in the United States.

As far as its second goal of attempting to use laws to support the domestic film industry, it is a naïve, but patriotic attempt, which is prone to fail, as it did the 11% tax in France, which was aimed at reducing the cultural and economical influence of the violent and sex filled, but popular American films.

Yet, to compare this law to Putin’s Russia where reporters are jailed for expressing their opinions is unfair and your using that parallel was probably based on false information provided to you by the political opposition in Hungary. You should correct it.
