Zuzana Kubova: Dear Mr. Liptak, I am an exchange student from Slovakia, but now I am here in the USA for a year. I am doing a project about the Gabčíkovo Dam in Slovakia. I made a search online and found one of your Danube Lawsuit Reports. I was wondering if you could answer some of my questions.

Vette-e az Egyesült Államok oldalt a vitában? The United States as such took no side, but the WWF, Greenpeace, etc. joined us in supporting the Compromise Plan. So did Dr. Jaromír Šíbl of the Slovak Academy of Science. I have prepared the Compromise Plan, which returns the Danube into her natural riverbed, saves the unique life forms of the Szigetköz, while allowing Gabčíkovo to operate.

Jogos volt-e, hogy Magyarország 1977-ben leállította az építkezést? I believe that this project was forced on two Soviet-occupied countries by Moscow’s Stalinist gigantomania and should have never been continued after the collapse of the Red Empire.

Mi a helyzet Szlovákia engedély nélküli “C változatával”? The Court in the Hague found the carrying out of this diversion illegal. The Court says that Slovakia was wrong to divert the Danube, Hungary was wrong to unilaterally cancel the agreement, and the Court is ready to render a verdict if, after failed direct negotiations, the parties return for a 2nd round to The Hague.

Sokak szerint a “C változat” ökológiailag jobb, mint az eredeti terv. Not much different. The solution is the Compromise Plan, NOT a little more water into a blocked riverbed. The solution is the Parshall Flume.

Lipták Béla válaszának zárása: “My pleasure, Zuzana. By the way, just so you know, I am of Slovak origin, and my goal in preparing the Compromise Plan is to reestablish the millennium-old friendship between Hungarians and Slovaks, which this xenophobic nationalist Mečiar is trying to destroy. A lasting solution can only be based on justice, which does not mean a ‘little more water,’ but the full restoration of the Szigetköz by opening up the original riverbed.”
